Bible Puzzle Pro - History

Living in Alabama with a comfortable programming business, my wife, a newly commissioned officer in the Air Force, found out she had orders to Iceland.  Iceland?  Where is Iceland?  I hurried to a map to see if I could find it.  Way up there?  Arctic Circle, North Atlantic, that can only mean ice, snow and cold and here I am a twelve year Alabama resident, who grew up in Florida.  We made the move and sure she had a job for our two year stay but what was I going to do?  I eventually found a great non-programming job that I'll never forget but I missed programming.  I expressed my misery to my mother one day and she asked if I could write her a program to create word search puzzles using memory verses for her Sunday School kids and an answer sheet for herself.   These were the humble beginnings of the program you see before you.  I got the idea to try and sell the software on Bulletin Boards back in the States.  I had seen a lot of shareware programs around but not many targeting the Christian audience.  I dressed up the program, adding 2 more puzzle types, Cryptogram and Word Jumble, built a cool front end and uploaded it to a BBS I knew back home.  There was no Internet in Iceland at the time and it was just evolving back in the States so I pretty much forgot about it...until registrations started coming in.  When we got back to the U.S. I was amazed at how much interest there was and how far and wide the program had spread with the new "World Wide Web".  I started working on an upgrade that expanded the puzzle types to 8 and bought the rights to use the NIV version of the Bible as one of the data sources.  I released this version around 1996.  After developing version 3 two years later, I left the program alone as I was working as a full time programmer and didn't really want to look at a computer at night.  Version 4 was short lived.  I started on it 3 years ago but then had to move twice and never got to really devote myself to the task.  I started work on this version, version 5, in September of 2006.  I completely reworked the program to give it a more modern look and added a couple more puzzle types.  Also included in this version is the ability to check for updates.  I will try to continue to develop the program for Vista and beyond.
